Wilma Ezekowitz, PhD obtained all her education in psychology at Yale University, New Haven Connecticut. She studied child and family therapy through the Yale Child Study Center and also worked with veterans at the West Haven V.A Hospital, doing individual and group therapy. She received extensive training in individual and family therapy, using psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal techniques. She also trained as a group therapist.
Prior to becoming a psychologist, Dr. Ezekowitz qualified as a physical therapist. She worked with a very diverse patient population in South Africa, London and the United States. Her patients included heart and lung transplants, cardiac rehabilitation, pediatric burns unit, cerebral palsy, spinal injuries and orthopedic injuries, to mention just a few.
After graduating from Yale, Dr. Ezekowitz worked as a psychologist in a large pediatric department in the New Haven area. She regards this as an incredibly enriching experience as her patients came from all walks of life and with a tremendous array of conditions.
Dr. Ezekowitz started full-time private practice 2001. She treats children, adults, families and couples. Her office reflects the diverse population with whom she has always worked. There are toys for play therapy with children as well as comfortable chairs and wall-hangings so that adults feel welcome. She does a significant amount of divorce work, with both parents and children. She consults to schools, courts, internists and pediatricians.
Although no longer a practicing physical therapist, Dr. Ezekowitz continues to have an interest in the psychological aspects of illness. She is interested in learning issues of all kinds in children and adolescents. Her work encompasses anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, attention deficit disorder, eating issues, and body image issues. She works hard to be an effective therapist and has always felt that she learns as much about life from her patients as they learn from her.
